What is your goal in studying science?
My goal is to go to pharmacy school and become a successful pharmacist.
What does STAMPS mean to you?
To me, STAMPS was an opportunity to get more involved in the science community and meet new people with similar interests to mine.
What advice would you offer incoming students?
Sometimes things don’t always happen exactly according to plan and that’s okay!
What is your research project?
My research is on the discovery of new Ripp (ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptide) Natural products. We are studying what we believe to be a new Ripp natural product and trying to learn more about its bioactive properties.
What is the significance of your research?
These natural products are important to the development of new drugs. As someone who plans to become a pharmacist, I think it is so important for research like this to be done. It allows new medicines to be made that will help so many people.
How has undergraduate research been beneficial for you?
Through getting involved with undergraduate research I have learned so much. It has given me the opportunity to work hands on with research I believe is important. Having a background in research will also be very beneficial to me in graduate school and on into my career. I am able to build many new connections and learn valuable skills like how to present research.
